In short: Work that fails or that you cancel isn't charged. Romy sets the credits aside when a job starts and only takes them once it finishes; otherwise they go back, and you don't need to ask.
How it works
When a job starts, its credits are set aside. They're taken only once the work is done. If the job fails, or you stop it, they go back to where they came from.
Where to check
In Settings › Credits, the credit history lists every job. One that failed says it didn't finish and wasn't charged; one you stopped says it was cancelled.
If that doesn't work
If a failed job still shows as charged, tell us which one and when. A person on the team replies by email.
